ಓದುಗರಿಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷ ೨೦೨೨ರ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು.

 ಓದುಗರಿಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷ ೨೦೨೨ರ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳು. ಈ ಶುಭ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತಾ ಅಮೃತಾನಂದಮಯಿಯವರು ಹೇಳಿದ ಕಥೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳೋಣ. ಅಂಗಡಿಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ಸೈಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಮರೆತು ಮನೆ ತಲಪಿದ್ದನು. ಮಾರನೆಯ ದಿನ ತನ್ನ ಸೈಕಲ್ ನೆನಪಾಗಿ ಅಂಗಡಿ ಕಡೆ ಓಡಿದ ಅವನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಸೈಕಲ್ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಇದದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಸಂತೋಷವಾಯಿತು. ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನರ್ಪಿಸಲೆಂದು ಆತ ಅದೇ ಸೈಕಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವೊಂದನ್ನು ತಲಪಿದನು. ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೊರಬರುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಸೈಕಲ್ ಕಳುವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕುಪಿತನಾದ ಅವನು ದೇವರನ್ನು ದೂಷಿಸಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದನು. ಜಾಣನಾದ ಅವನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತ, 'ನಿನ್ನ ಸೈಕಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬೀಗ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದೆಯಾ' ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗಲೇ ಆತನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪಿನ ಅರಿವಾಗಿದ್ದು. 

ನಮ್ಮ ಕ್ಷೇಮದ ಮುನ್ನೆಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯೇ ನಮಗಿಲ್ಲವಾದಾಗ ದೇವರನ್ನು ದೂಷಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವೇನು? ಕೋವಿಡ್ ವೈರಾಣುವನ್ನು ದೇವರು ಏತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೋ, ತಿಳಿಯದು. ಆದರೆ ಅದೇ ದೇವರು ಕೋವಿಡ್ ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟಬಹುದಾದಂತಹ ಮುನ್ನೆಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು, ಉಪಯುಕ್ತ ಲಸಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಮಗೆ ದಯಪಾಲಿಸಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಮಾಸ್ಕ್ ಧರಿಸಿದೆ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅಂತರವನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ, ಸಾಬೂನಿನಿಂದ ಆಗಾಗ ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ, ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಲಸಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದೇ, ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಸೋಂಕಿಗೆ ತುತ್ತಾದರೆ, ಯಾರನ್ನು ದೂಷಿಸಿ ಏನು ಪ್ರಯೋಜನ? ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಹೋರಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟುವ ಕ್ರಮಗಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸೂಕ್ತವಲ್ಲವೇ? 

೨೦೨೦ರ ಕುದಿಯುವ ಬಾಣಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ  ಬೆಂದ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ, ೨೦೨೧ರಲ್ಲಿ ಉರಿಯುವ ಬೆಂಕಿಗೇ ಬಿದ್ದಂತಾಗಿತ್ತಲ್ಲವೇ? ೨೦೨೦ರ ಮೊದಲ ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಅಲೆಯಿಂದ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಸಾವು-ನೋವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ನಾವು, ೨೦೨೧ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನೇ ಅಲೆಯ ದಳ್ಳುರಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದದ್ದು ಅನೀರಿಕ್ಷಿತವೇನಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ನಾವುಗಳು  ಉದಾಸೀನರಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತದ್ದು ಸುಳ್ಳಲ್ಲ. ಕ್ರೂರ ಎರಡನೇ ಅಲೆಗೆ ತತ್ತರಿಸದ ಸಂಸಾರಗಳೇ ಇಲ್ಲವೆನ್ನಬಹುದು. ಬಂಧು-ಮಿತ್ರರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾನ್ನಾದರೂ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳದಿರುವವರು ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು. ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ಎರಡನೇ ಅಲೆಯ ವೇಳೆ, ಸಾವೆಂಬುದು ಅಗ್ಗವಾಗಿ, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಎಂಬುದು ದಂಧೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕಠೋರ ಸತ್ಯ. ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ, ಜೀವವಾಯು ಆಕ್ಸಿಜನ್ಗಾಗಿ ನಡೆದ ಪರೆದಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಡವರನ್ನೂ ಸುಲಿದ ರಾಕ್ಷಸರು, ಶವ ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲೂ ಹಣ ದೋಚಲು ಹೇಸದ ಘಟನೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವದ ಹಂಗನ್ನೇ ತೊರೆದು ಬಡ ರೋಗಿಗಳ ಜೀವವಗಳನ್ನುಳಿಸಿದ ಕರೋನ ಸೇನಾನಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿದೆವಲ್ಲ! 

ಭಾರತದಂತಹ ಬೃಹತ್ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಕೊರತೆಯ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆದ ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ಲಸಿಕಾ ಅಭಿಯಾನ ಇಡೀ ವಿಶ್ವವನ್ನೇ ಬೆರಗುಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಮುನ್ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ವಿಷಯ. ಈಗ ಯೋಜಿಸಿರುವ ೧೫-೧೮ರ ಬಾಲಕರ ಮತ್ತು ಬೇರೆ ರೋಗಗಳಿಂದ ಪೀಡಿತರಾದ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರೀಕರ ಲಸಿಕಾ ಅಭಿಯಾನವೂ ಸ್ವಾಗತಾರ್ಹವೇ. 

ಸುಮಾರು ೫೦೦ ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಂಕಾಗಿ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಡೆಗೂ ಶಾಲೆಗಳು ಪುನರಾರಂಭವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸಂತಸದ ವಿಷಯ. ಶಾಲೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ, ಆನ್ಲೈನ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆಯಲಾಗದೆ ಬಾಲ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರಾಗಿ, ಬಾಲ ವಿವಾಹಿತರಾಗಿ ನಲುಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಶಾಲೆಗಳು ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸಂಜೀವಿನಿಯೇ ಸರಿ. ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಲಸಿಕಾ ಅಭಿಯಾನ ಚುರುಕುಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ, ಒಮಿಕ್ರೋನ್/ಕೋವಿಡ್  ದಾಳಿಯಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತೆಂದೂ ಮುಚ್ಚದಂತಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಆಶಿಸೋಣ. 

ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಸಂಕಟದ ನಡುವೆ, ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷ ನಾವು ದುರ್ಘಟನೆಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಾ ಸೇನಾನಾಯಕ ಬಿಪಿನ್ ರಾವತ್ ರವರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ದುರಂತವೇ ಸರಿ.  ಅಂತೆಯೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಯುವ ನಟ ಪುನೀತ್ ರಾಜ್ ಕುಮಾರರವರನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡದ್ದು ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷದ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ದುರಂತ. 

ಹಾಗೆಂದ ಮಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ೨೦೨೧ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ದುರಂತಗಳ ಸರಮಾಲೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆಯ ಮುನ್ನಡೆ ಇಡೀ ವಿಶ್ವವನ್ನೇ ಬೆರಗುಗೊಳಿಸಿತ್ತೆಂದರೆ ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿಯೇನಲ್ಲ. ಟೋಕಿಯೋ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ನೀರಜ್ ಛೋಪ್ರಾರವರು ಗಳಿಸಿದ ಜಾವಲಿನ್ ಚಿನ್ನದೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಏಳು ಪದಕಗಳನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ವಿಷಯವೇ ಸರಿ. ಅಂತೆಯೇ ದಿವ್ಯಚೇತನರ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ೧೯ ಪದಕಗಳು ಕೂಡ. ೨೦೨೧ರಲ್ಲಿ  ಭಾರತದ ಟೆಸ್ಟ್ ಕ್ರಿಕೆಟ್ ತಂಡ ವಿದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಟೆಸ್ಟ್ಗಳನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದದ್ದು ಅಭೂತಪೂರ್ವ ಸಾಧನೆಯೇ ಸರಿ. 

ಹೊಸ ವರ್ಷ ೨೦೨೨ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವದ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಲಸಿಕೆಗಳು  ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಗಳು  ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ದೊರೆಯುವಂತಾಗಲಿ, ಕೋವಿಡ್ನ ಅಲೆಗಳು ಅಂತ್ಯಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ, ದೇಶದ ಹಾಗು ವಿಶ್ವದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆ ಉತ್ತಮಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ, ಬಡವರ ಬಾಳು ಹಸನಾಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸೋಣ.

New year greetings to all our readers.  On this happy occasion let us remember an interesting story narrated by Maata Amrutanandamayee. After purchasing a few items from a shop, a man reached his home forgetting his bicycle near the shop itself.  He got up next day remembering his bicycle and rushed to the shop spot.  He was pleasantly surprised to find his bicycle still there.  On the same bicycle he went to a nearby temple to thank God.  After bowing before the God, when he came out he was shocked not to find his bicycle.  He felt frustrated and started blaming God.  Only after his clever friend asked whether he had locked the bicycle, he remembered his folly.

When we don't care for our own safety, are we right in blaming God? Why God created Covid Virus, nobody knows!  But, hasn't the same God shown us the way to remain safe from Covid? After throwing caution to the wind by ignoring to wear mask, maintain social distancing, wash hands with soap frequently and receive vaccine doses as per schedule, if one gets infected with Covid, what is the use in blaming somebody or even God? Isn't 'prevention better than cure?' 

From the frying pan of first wave of 2020, we fell into the fire of second wave during 2021. After having witnessed a large number of deaths during first wave, the devastating second wave of 2021 was quite expected.  In between, weren't  we and even our Governments guilty of complacence? Second wave affected almost all families.  Most of us have suffered the loss of life of at least one  among our relatives and friends due to Covid.  During the second wave, lives had became cheap and treatments had become a business! In the midst of loots by the corrupt while allotting Covid beds, providing life-saving oxygen masks and even during funerals, we also witnessed brave corona warriors saving lives of poor patients even at the cost of risking their own lives.

In spite of limited resources, the successful march of our massive vaccination drive launched by our great country during last year has surprised the entire world. Our latest move to vaccinate adolescents of the age group of 15-18 and provide booster doses to our senior citizens with comorbidities is a welcome move.   

The onset of third wave of Covid with variants like Omicron is a cause of grave concern.  Restrictions imposed by our State Governments to contain the third wave have once again reminded us the nightmares of massive loss of jobs, march of jobless migrants on foot and the closure of schools for our children. After the loss of 500 school-days, our schools were limping back to normalcy over last 4 months. Loss of school-days is especially bad for our poor rural children who are incapable of participating in online classes. Many of them were driven towards child labour and even child marriages. Let us hope that the third wave would be weaker and short lived as predicted. But the only 'mantra' for safety is following all Covid precautions.  Our State Governments are responsible for combating vaccine hesitancy, while ensuring 100% vaccination at the earliest. 

In the midst of Covid crisis, last year we lost General Bipin Rawat, our Chief of Defence Staff in an unfortunate helicopter accident.  We also lost our young Kannada film icon Puneet Rajkumar and the veteran actor Shivaram.

No doubt, 2021 was a bad year. But it had some nice developments for us to smile upon.  Our economic growth during the entire year was quite healthy and consistent, attracting attention of the entire world. In Tokyo Olympics our Country won 7 medals, the highest ever tally,  including the first ever athletic gold by our Javelin athlete Neeraj Chopra.  Record breaking 19 medals including 5 Golds in the Special Olympics for the differently-abled was also a proud achievement. Indian cricketers recorded their best ever year in Test cricket by winning 4 overseas Test matches against three different strong teams. 

Some experts are predicting that the emergence of weaker Covid variants like Omicron and their faster spread is probably the gift of nature's vaccine. It is hoped that such faster spread of weaker mutants of Covid will lead us towards herd immunity. Third wave is expected to be mild and short lived.  Let all infected people be cured by suitable treatments, without hurting their poor pockets.   Let us hope that the waves of Covid will end in the year 2022.  Let us also hope that the economy of our country and the entire world will improve substantially while ensuring our lives and livelihoods.
