1) Why do you think Nakula did not obey the voice?

Answer: Nakula was very thirsty.  Therefore he ignored the voice and drank water.

2) Happiness is the result of good conduct.  Do you agree with this?  Support your answer with an example.

Answer: Abdul Kalam lived a simple life.  He loved poor people and children. He was a happy man.

3) Why did Yama take the form of a Yaksha?

Answer: Yama had taken the form of the deer and the Yaksha, so that he might see his son Yudhistira and test him.

4) Why do you think the Yaksha gave Yudhistira a boon?

Yudhistira answered all questions.  Yaksha was also pleased with the impartiality of Yudhistira when he asked that Madri's son Nakula be revived. Therefore Yaksha gave a boon to Yudhistira.

5) Why do you think the ascetic did not accept the invitation of the dancing girl?

Upagupta said that the time is not yet ripe. Therefore he did not accept the invitation of the dancing girl.

6) Write the summary of the poem Upagupta.

Answer: Upagupta a disciple of Buddha, goes from one place to another. Once he was sleeping in a small town called Mathura.  A dancing girl wakes him up and invites him to her home. Upagupta refuses but tells her, 'I will visit you when the time is ripe.'

A few months later, Upagupta finds the dancing girl lying on the ground outside a town.  She was having sores all over her body.  She is driven away from the town.  He gives her water and applies balm on her body.  The woman asks who he is.  Upagupta replies, 'now the time has come to visit you and I am here.'

7) Write the three questions for which the King wanted to have answers.


i) What is the right time to begin something?

ii) Who should a King listen to?

iii) What is the most important thing for a King to do?

8) The hermit said that the King had been answered.  If you agree, what was the answer to the first question?

The hermit said that 'remember then, there is only one time that is important and that time is "now." It is the most important time because it is the only time we have any power to act.'

9) Why is the poet grateful for eyes and ears?

Answer:

I am grateful for the eyes that I can see the activities that can be done by me.  I am grateful for the ears that I may hear the sobbing of those who need me near.

In a forest thee was a lion.  It was killing many animals everyday for food.  The animals assembled and met the lion and requested.  An animal was sent each day to the lion as food.  It was the turn of rabbit.  It feared and thought of a plan.  It went to the lion and told that there was another lion.  The lion was angry and came to the well and saw its reflection.  It roared, jumped into the well and died.

MORAL: Wisdom is stronger than physical strength. OR Think of a plan to face a danger.
